Bihar Micro Enterprise / Pro-poor Business Development Strategy for Urban Local Economic Development

Developing a pro-poor micro-enterprise development strategy for 28 Urban Local Bodies in Bihar.  This is in collaboration with KPMG. (Supported by Support Programme for Urban Reforms in Bihar (SPUR), DFID and Government of Bihar)

Impact assessment of the organic cotton value chain in AP and Maharashtra promoted by Chetna Organics, Hyderabad Part of multi-country programme for assessment of value chains promoted by CATIE, Costa Rica [Ford Foundation] (2010-11). 

This and an earlier assessment of EDA’s own honey project in Muzaffarpur has contributed to the development of a livelihoods rating methodology by M-CRIL.

Monitoring systems  Four livelihoods programmes:  ANT, New Bongaigaon (North East), Shramjivi, Pune (Mahahrashtra) Samuha, Raichur (Karnataka) Chetna Organic Farmers Association, Hyderabad (Andhra Pradesh).  Supported by Ford Foundation  (2010-11)

Focus to maintain, organise and analyze data for financial performance and impact related indicators of the livelihoods/ enterprise projects. Technical support includes: development of appropriate formats for data collection, Systems for effective data management, a customised framework of analysis for each organisation, Cash flow statement and analysis, methodology to assess the results of the enterprise activity for the households facilitating informed decisions

Impact assessment of the East Gandak Canal Hydroelectric Project on the socio-economic life of local users of electricity (Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA); 2009)

Technical inputs to World Bank’s SME Development and Finance Project (GTZ and DAI UK; 2007-08): Provided technical inputs to value chain development in textile pharmaceutical and other clusters.  Training in Participatory Appraisal of Competitive Advantage, diagnostic studies of clusters

Appraisal and Portfolio Management of SME Loans (South Asia Enterprise Development Facility (SEDF) Dhaka, 2006-2007):  Developed and delivered a series of training “Appraisal and Portfolio Management of SME Loans” for Senior Management staff of SME financing division of BRAC Bank, Bangladesh.

Monitoring and capacity building of implementing agencies undertaking SIDBI programmes in 14 states (1999 to 2004):  Direct support to 30-35 NGOs and Enterprise Promotion Organisations to prepare and implement enterprise development strategies, market analysis and marketing support for rural products.
